5 Fall Decor Ideas to Make Your Home Cozy this Season
Fall is just around the corner and we could not be more excited! We’re all for layers, rich earthy tones, and the feeling of a fresh start. That being said, today we’re coming to you with a few simple changes to your home’s aesthetic in order to embrace fall’s satisfying magic in any room. From making a seasonal shift on the mantelpiece to swapping out your pillow cases—these are our five favourite fall decor ideas to revamp your space for the season:
1. Get cozy with a textured throw blanket
Don't let the cold get to you - warm up your home this fall with a textured cozy blanket. Throw blankets are a quick and easy way to bring a new look and feel to a room and are a functional way to decorate. There are many styles and patterns to choose from, so pick one that matches your vibe while adding some fall colours and zest to your space. We recommend sticking to materials that offer texture and weight for the perfect harvest aesthetic:
Alpaca Wool - this sustainably made alpaca wool blanket from Amber Interiors comes in the most perfect fall colours
Ribbed Knit - just like a good fall sweater, this ribbed throw is a staple in warming up any home
Quilted Throw - we love the way this cotton quilt from Parachute in moss green looks relaxed over the back of a sofa
Hand-Knitted - ultra cozy vibes with a chunky textured blanket go a long way slung over the side of a chair, like this one from West Elm
2. Heighten the senses with candles
For us, lighting is arguably one of the most important factors in creating a vibe in any space. In the cozy months, we tend to opt for accent lamps or candles instead of our everyday lighting for a more intimate atmosphere. Add candles to your home for warmth, ambiance and to give any room in the house a soothing autumn scent. With different scents, shapes, sizes and colours to choose from, candles make great additions to any tabletop surface for a special touch.
Pro tip: Elevate the vibe and tap into yet another sense with a candle that crackles. The sound and smell together make it feel like you're warming up by the fire. After all, every detail counts in creating a comforting and relaxed feeling in your home. We’re getting our living room fall ready with a crackling candle from WoodWick. Our favourites scents for fall are:
Fireside - our hands down favourite for the entire fall season.. and winter :)
Smoked Walnut & Maple - a smooth rich scent perfect for a late fall evening
Pumpkin Butter - do we need to say more?
Warm Woods Trilogy - three scents layered: Fireside, Redwood, and Sandalwood Clove, aka a plethora of cozy deliciousness
WoodWick candles are honestly a staple in our house for any season. Seriously, just get one and thank us later.
3. Welcome fall at your doorstep
Last year was allll about layering outdoor rugs and we’re not over it. This year we’re doing it again, but with a few extra tips to really elevate the look. Layering is a great way to spruce up your entryway and go above and beyond the standard single mat look. Whether you’d like to layer double or even triple, keep in mind that you want contrast with each layer. To start, take a flat outdoor rug in a pattern or fall colour and lay it on top of a textured mat that is a few inches larger. If you want to hit that pro decorator status, mix in a third rug for that extra touch. This is where you can let your personality shine and play with a fun fall graphic like our friend Leah from Elle Em Design did pictured above. Or you can even go for something more colourful like this mat we’re loving from Anthropologie. Doormats are an easy way to add an extra fall touch to your front porch and offer a warm welcome to your Friends-giving guests!
4. Swap your textiles for fall tones and textures
It’s Sweater Weather, and for your pillows, the same rules apply. Give your nest a homey, fall feeling with a simple swap of pillow covers. Whatever your style, pillow covers will let you change up the look of your house in seconds. These are an easy cost-effective way to add some style and comfort to your home. With hundreds of styles to choose from, you’re bound to find the perfect cover that screams FALL - like this light brown velvet cover from H&M Home that perfectly fits a fall setting.
5. Layer the heck out of your bedding
Let the season inspire your bedroom, with layers of fall-inspired textiles. Add a rustic touch to the space and bring the outdoors inside through organic materials and textures. Make use of rich earthy tones, woven textiles, and plenty of relaxed layering for a bedroom or guest room that feels like a warm hug. We’re layering up this year with this weaved coverlet in raisin from Parachute and this cotton knit blanket from West Elm for added texture. What’s better than a bed you can snuggle into during the cozy months? We’ll give you a minute.

And just like that, your house is a cozy haven ready for the colder months ahead. What we love about these fall decor ideas is that they’re an easy and inexpensive way to add simple touches of the season to your space without overdoing it. Now please excuse us while we go light some candles, curl up by the fire, and enjoy a hot pumpkin spiced latte. You didn’t think we were going to skip out on mentioning a PSL in a post about fall, did you?
